Earl Birkeland

Memorial Services for Earl Joseph Birkeland, 68 of Glendive, MT will be 11:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the American Legion Club in Fargo. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Earl passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005 at Glendive Medical Center. Earl was born December 13, 1936 at Fargo, ND, the son of Ole J. and Amelia (Peterson) Birkeland. He grew up and attended grade school at St. Anthony?s and graduated from Shanley High School in 1954. He then enlisted into the United States Navy where he served for four years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Fargo and attended NDSU, majoring in Economics. Upon graduation he started working for the IRS as an Office Auditor in Fargo. After several years he retired and opened his own tax practice in Fargo, where he worked until his retirement. He made Fargo his home until entering the Veterans Home in Glendive due to failing health. Earl enjoyed riding bicycle and competed in many bicycle races throughout the area. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Fargo. Survivors include two sisters: Audrey Brunner, Grants Pass, OR and JoAnn Hansen, Bismarck, ND; special friends, Don and Dorothy Bussier, Dickinson, and all of his remaining classmates. He was preceded in death by his parents.
