Funeral Services for Edith Kortum, 89, of Ekalaka, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. Monday, November 19, 2007 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with JoAn Marshall and Dale Speiser officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka. Visitation will be 12 noon to 9:00 p. m. on Sunday, November 18, 2007 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Edith passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Dahl Memorial Health Care in Ekalaka, MT. Edith Marie Kortum was born September 21, 1918 on her grandparents, Lew and Anna Carpenter?s, ranch in the Lee Community on Rosebud Creek in Rosebud County, MT. She was the daughter of Arthur and Vera (Carpenter) Holly. Edith grew up in the Lee Community, attending school two years in Lame Deer and finished grade school at the Lee School. She attended high school at Ingomar and Rosebud. Edith obtained her GED at the age of 53. On October 12, 1939, Edith married Walter Bud Kortum in Forsyth, MT. Bud and Edith made their home and ranched in the Chalk Buttes Community until 1960, when they moved to Ekalaka. To this union nine children were born. Edith cooked at the New Life Caf? and did washing and ironing for other people. In 1973, she went to work at the Dahl Memorial Hospital, where she worked until she was 82 years old. Edith loved to cook for her family and friends. Her family fondly remembers her donuts, baked bread, cinnamon twists and canned deer meat. She fried the best darn chicken in the world!Edith is survived by her five sons, Ronald (Dorothy) Kortum, Raynesford, MT, Holly (Betty) Kortum, Belt, MT, Dennis (Ande) Kortum, Ekalaka, MT, Roger (Debra) Kortum, Ekalaka, MT and Tim (Sam) Kortum, Terry, MT; four daughters, Jeanette Abel, Okanagan, WA, Yvonne (Art) Kincheloe, Melstone, MT, Helen Stevens, Ekalaka, MT and Debra (Dave) Louvar, Big Sandy, MT; 30 grandchildren, Kim (Tod), Darius, Dale, Duane (Misty), Darryl (Cindie), Darla (Fay), Tracy (Tim), Randy, Dawn (Bryce), Nita, Michelle (Mac), Buddy, Billy (Coleen), Hope, Art, Justin, Nathan, Amanda, Damien (Julie), Trevor, Sarah, Jamie (Paul), Cole, Bailey, Loni, Morgan (Josh), Matthew, Patrick, Jeremy (Holly), and John; 33 great-grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Arthur and Vera Holly, four brothers, Clayton, Deward, Lew, Drew and her two sisters, Dora (Bob) Mees and Betty Lou Holly, a great-grandson, Tanner Speiser and her traveling companion, Florence Schneider.
