Edna Rosella Kolstad was born August 26, 1916 at the family homestead, southeast of Emerson in Dunn County, the daughter of Arthur and Gusty (Klovstad) Kolstad. She grew up and attended country grade school through eighth grade. She went on to attend Model High School in Dickinson where she graduated high school. Edna received her teaching certificate through Minot State Teachers College. She began teaching in country schools and would eventually teach elementary school for 27 years. Edna worked in Manning at the Dunn County Courthouse for 8 1/2 years in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s doing office work and served as Dunn County School Superintendent. On June 25, 1952, Edna and Erland Paulson were united in marriage at Normanna Lutheran Church. To this union a daughter, Nola was born. The family ranched on the Knife River east of Marshall. In 1994, Erland and Edna moved into Taylor where they made their home. Due to failing health, Edna lived at the Richardton Health Center for several years. Edna was a member of Marshall Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Marshall Church Womens Group, Taylor Bible Study Group, Peaceful Valley Homemakers Club of Marshall, and the Retired Teachers Association. Throughout the years she enjoyed singing with her sisters, horse back riding, reading, baking, sewing and walking. After retiring from teaching in 1976, she enjoyed helping at the Marshall Store and Post Office. Spending time with her grandchildren brought her great joy and loved time spent with family and friends. Her loving ways will be deeply missed.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Nola (Jack) Hutchinson of Taylor, one grandson, Lee (Breanna) Hutchinson of Bismarck; and one granddaughter, Tara Hutchinson of Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gusty Kolstad; husband, Erland; and three sisters, Melva Kolstad, Mildred Kolstad and Alvina Williver.
