Edna was born and raised nine miles east of Mildred, Montana to her parents Gottfred G. and Ottilia (Martz) Schmidt. Edna was the 8th child of 10 children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and had a strong spiritual relationship with her Lord, thanking Him in good times and others. As a teenager Edna enjoyed working with horses and breaking them to ride. Edna graduated from elementary school in Mildred, Montana and attended high school in Terry and Ismay, Montana. Instead of starting her senior year she married her husband, Helmut Straub on August 24, 1952 in her home church (German Congregational) in Fallon, Montana. Edna received her G. E. D. 40 years later, in 1992. Helmut and Edna raised three children: Cheryll Rene`, Louetta Louise, and Lester Elton. Her passion was working in her yard and her flowers. Edna was a true, full partner doing farm work with Helmut along with their children on their farm. After retiring they moved into the Baker Parkview Complex in April 2010. Edna loved singing duets with Helmut for weddings, anniversaries, funerals and also for their own entertainment. She was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Plevna where she played the organ for many years. Edna was an avid sports fan of her children and grandchildren, regardless of the sport. Her pastimes included playing the piano or organ, reading, and conversing with people. Her great-grandchildren were her special joys. Edna is survived by her children, Cheryll Straub (Lisa) of Tucson, Arizona, Louetta Straub of Rapid City, South Dakota, Lester Straub (Julie) of Baker, Montana; her grandchildren, ShaRell (Mike) Hauck, Marisa (Neil) Packineau, Presley Straub, Shaleigh (Tyler) Irigoin; great-grandchildren Braxton and Pryar Packineau and Baby Hauck; siblings Reverend Edward Schmidt, Loraine Ban-Grist, Meriam (Jack) McMurry, Eldora (Calvin) Fischer; sisters-in-law Mrs. Leonard (Estella) Schmidt, and Mrs. Alvin (Eleanor) Schmidt; former son-in-law Kevin Egland and former daughter-in-law Sharon Tronstad.
