Funeral Services for Edna Transtrom, 86, of Halliday are 10:00 a. m. , Monday, September 15, 2008, at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Halliday with Pastor Joel Saurwein, officiating. Burial will follow at St. John?s Cemetery north of Halliday. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer. Edna passed away, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at her home in Halliday. Edna H. Transtrom was born July 13, 1922 to Christian and Lydia (Kruckenberg) Rasch on the Rasch Family Ranch Northwest of Halliday, ND. She attended Pioneer country school through the 8th grade. After schooling, she worked on the family ranch, as well as other ranches in the area. It was during this time, Edna met Harry Transtrom and the two were married September 3, 1949. Together, they made their home on the Rasch family ranch. To this union two children were born, Don and Lil. Due to health concerns, Edna and Harry moved to Halliday in 1972. Harry passed away in May 1979. Edna continued to reside in Halliday where she worked for the grocery store and wrote the ?Halliday News? for the Dunn County Herald for nearly 38 years. She enjoyed dancing, reading, playing cards, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, cooking and canning. She loved music and taught herself to play various instruments. She also enjoyed her time with the ladies in the Red Hat Club. Edna was a member of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Halliday, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lion?s Club. She is survived by her son, Don (Mardell) Transtrom, Halliday, ND; daughter, Lil Reiss, Dunn Center, ND; brothers, Richard ,Art and Walter( Eunice) Rasch; sister, Agatha Schossow; eight grandchildren, Lily (John) Ward, Carrington, ND, Larry, Landry, Lane Transtrom, Halliday, ND, Shawn Reiss, Dunn Center, ND, Jason (Tina) Reiss, Dickinson, ND, Mike (Kayla) Reiss, Dickinson, ND, Rod Reiss, Killdeer, ND; eleven great grandchildren;, Morgan, Bridgette, Brooklyn, Myranda, Dalton, Kiarra, Britney and Riley Reiss, Mikayla, Garrett and Jenneva Ward; many nieces and nephews. Edna is preceded in death by: both parents, husband, Harry; son-in-law, Harry Reiss, brothers, Albert, Otto, George, Herbert, and Roland Rasch; sisters, Hilda Rasch and Erna Knutson; Special friends, Durward Van Vleet and Curley Anderson.
