Edward Haag, 78, Dickinson, died Thursday, December 9, 2004 in Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a. m. Monday, December 13, 2004, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Rev. James Braaten, celebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be 12 noon to 9 p. m. , Sunday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p. m. Edward Haag was born December 9, 1926 in Fairfield, ND to Nick and Monica (Keller) Haag. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Assumption Abbey High School in Richardton. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. He married Helen M. Wanner on September 26, 1950 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They farmed and ranched on Upper Magpie Road near Fairfield, where conservation was a very important part of his life. For all their work, they were awarded the Stark-Billings Water Management Award for two years. In 1974, they were awarded the overall Soil Conservation Award. In 1980, they moved to Dickinson. Edward was always very active in the community. He served on the Billlings County School Board for 16 years, the Medora Grazing Association, Farmers Home Administration, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee and the Billings County Water Management and Welfare Board. He was elected to serve as County Commissioner for Billings County from 1974 to 1978. He was a rural mail carrier and culvert salesman for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Club, which he received the Knight of the Year award in 1979. He was also a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and gathering for coffee at 6 a. m. with friends and relatives. Edward loved to be surrounded by family and friends and was always ready to lend a hand to those who needed it. He enjoyed being at their lake home and having friends and neighbors stop by. They could always find Edward sitting on the deck ready for conversation or a game of cards. He loved to take his grandchildren fishing and reminiscing about old times. Edward Haag is survived by: his wife, Helen; two daughters, Gloria Kary (Val Kary), Bismarck, ND, JoAnn (James) Sauvageau, Dickinson, ND; four grandchildren, Angela (Trent) Anderson, Minneapolis, MN, Jason Sauvageau, Dickinson, ND, Allison Sauvageau, Fargo, ND and Bradley Sauvageau, Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Betty Koenig and Jean (Eugene) Stockert, both of Dickinson, ND; three brothers, Martin (Evelyn) Haag, Fairfield, ND, Leo N. (Florence) Haag and Ralph (Beverly) Haag, both of Dickinson, ND; brother-in-law, Leo Hartman, Dickinson, ND and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Nick and Monica Haag; sisters, Rose, who died in infancy, and Clementine Hartman; brothers-in-law, Fred Koenig, Ted Wanner and Ed Wanner; niece, Madonna Koenig Leenay, and nephew Tom Haag.
