Funeral Service for Edward Albert Koenig Jr. , 91, of Baker, MT will be 11:00 a. m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Baker Community Church with Rev. Mark D. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker, MT. Visitation will be 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Edward Albert Koenig Jr. was born on December 13, 1915 a son of Edward Sr. and Pauline (Pietzke) Koenig on the family homestead southwest of Plevna, MT in rural Fallon County. As a young child, Ed moved with his parents to the O?Laughlin place, northwest of Baker, MT. When Ed was 16 years old he took a job working on the construction of US Highway 12 west of Baker. Later Ed worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. building the Fort Peck Dam. Ed met and later married Bertha Huether of Plevna, MT on December 12, 1937 at the German Congregational Church in Plevna, MT. To this union Stella, Dennis, Beverly, Peggy, Ralph and Gail were born. In 1941, Ed and Bertha purchased a farm northeast of Baker where they raised their family. Ed loved farming and ranching, and passed that knowledge and love of the land down to his children and grandchildren. Ed learned as a small child the art of sausage making and always made sausage every year. It is a tradition that his children and grandchildren still continue. Ed served on the O?Donnell and Fertile Prairie Schools Boards for many years. Ed also helped install the first phone line northwest of Baker. Ed and Bertha were blessed with 63 years of marriage until Bertha passed away on July 27, 2001. Ed continued to live on the farm until 2005 when he moved into Quality Personal Care in Baker. Ed passed away Monday, January 22, 2007 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, MT. Ed is survived by children: Stella (Bill) Bigger, Oak Harbor, WA; Dennis (Faye) Koenig, Baker, MT; Beverly Koenig, Baker, MT; Peggy (Kenny) Meccage, Baker, MT and Ralph (Joan) Koenig, Baker, MT; two sisters, Erna O?Donnell, Baker, MT and Alvina Lundgren, Willmar, MN; his brother, William Koenig, Thermopolis, WY; a sister-in-law, Marge Koenig, Baker, MT; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, Edward Sr. and Pauline Koenig, his loving wife, Bertha, his infant daughter, Gail, in 1958, his sisters, Margaret and Sophie, his brothers Otto, Howard, Arnold, and Arthur and grandson Dustin Koenig and his wife Kandi preceded him in death.
