Ed passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at home with his family by his side, after a lengthy battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Edward Pachl was born March 23, 1938 to Frank and Mary (Jirges) Pachl on the family farm south of Dickinson. He grew up and attended the Wild Rose Country School southwest of Dickinson. On May 7, 1957 Edward married Madonna E. Magelky at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson, ND. The couple lived on the family before moving to Dickinson. In 1968, they purchased their home south of Dickinson. Ed worked for Western Livestock Sales for many years before working for Stark County. He retired in 2002 after 31 years with the county. Together Ed and Madonna enjoyed their ?sidewalk farm? raising milk cows, pigs and chickens as well as making hay for the animals and gardening. Ed enjoyed being a ?cowboy? as he had an arena on the farm and team roped with friends. During his retirement years, he and Madonna helped build Glenn?s house, including the cabinetry and woodwork, which then became his hobby. His woodworking and grooming the yard was his therapy during his battle with cancer. Ed valued family and cherished the frequent family gatherings. He liked to dance, play cards, fish and just being outdoors. Ed?s creative resourcefulness was evident in how he fixed the grandkids? toys, to his design for capturing rainwater for the garden. His greatest satisfaction in life was to ?help others out in any way he could. ? Ed was a member of Elks, St. Anthony, St. Pius Verein, St. Joseph?s Catholic Church and a Golden Eagle Member. He is survived by his wife, Madonna, Dickinson, ND; sons, Glenn Pachl, Dickinson, ND, Garrett (Vicki) Pachl, Glenwood, IA; daughters, Corliss (Vernon) Hahn, Bismarck, ND, Coletta (Jim) Stanger, Gillette, WY, Corina (Rod) Zalesky, Dickinson, ND; grandchildren, Derek and Darin Anton, Sheldon Stanger, Bradley and Jessica Pachl, Megan Zalesky, Joshua, Justin and Jakob Pachl; brothers, Albert (Mag) Pachl, Springfield, OR, Leonard (Rose) Pachl, Helena, MT; sister Bertha (John) Kuntz, South Heart, ND; sisters-in-law; Leona Pachl, Dickinson, ND and Mary Pachl, Vancouver, WA.
