Edward ?Bob? Tavis, 79, Dickinson, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a. m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. David Morman celebrating. Military Rites will be provided by the Dickinson Veterans Drill Team. Interment will be 2 p. m. MST, Tuesday in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan. Visitation will be 3 p. m. to 9 p. m. Monday, January 19, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p. m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Edward Tavis was born January 7, 1925, in Mobridge, SD to Edward L. and Magdelena (Schantz) Tavis. Bob grew up in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School. He served in the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in April of 1946. Bob married Josephine Suchy in Mandan on June 25, 1947. Bob worked as a candy salesman for his dad in Mandan and moved to Dickinson in 1953, where he owned and operated Tavis Candy Company until he retired. He resided at St. Luke?s Home the past three years. Bob was a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he was an usher and served on the parish council. He was a life member of the VFW, K of C, Elks and Eagles. Bob Tavis is survived by his wife, Josephine, Dickinson; daughters, Cheri Aasmundstad, Kansas City, MO, Leslie (Ken) Lipp, Rapid City, SD, Lynn (Jim) Wolf, Detroit Lakes, MN, Marcie (Larry) Baesler, Cheyenne, WY; sons, Robert (Margaret) Tavis, Oakdale, MN and Todd Tavis, Dickinson, 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Eisenhauer, Mandan. He was preceded in death by: his mother, father and two sisters, Mildred Bowe and Lorna Renner.
