Funeral Mass for Edwin Anton Kostelecky, 86, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. , Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will be 3:00 p. m. CDT, Monday, October 31, 2011 in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation for Ed will be from 12:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Friday, October 28, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Ed passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Edwin Anton Kostelecky was born June 9, 1925 in Dickinson, son of Frank and Pauline (Sykora) Kostelecky. He grew up and attended school in Dickinson. As a young man Ed worked for the Tony Fisher Family. In 1943, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the American, Asiatic, Pacific, European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters as well as the Philippine Liberation. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945. After his return to North Dakota, Ed met Dorothy J. Hibl. They were united in marriage on October 18, 1948 in New Hradec. To this union eight children were born: Carol, Sue, Russ, Tim, Dorene, Mary, Mike and Jeff. Together, they worked and raised their family in Dickinson. Ed worked at Farmers Union Creamery, Cloverdale Foods, and retired from West Plains Electric in1989. Ed enjoyed 22 years of retirement. Ed enjoyed newspaper brainteasers, woodworking, antiques, carpentry and playing solitaire. All of his family has been fortunate to receive some his woodworking treasures. Ed was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, an Honored Member of Dickinson Eagles Club and St. Anthony?s Club. Ed died on an ordinary day, in ordinary time, an extraordinary man. Although he was small in stature, he had the largest heart of any man. Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Dickinson; children: Carol (John) Degenstein of Dickinson, Sue (Dale) Klein of The Colony, Texas, Russ (Joan) Kostelecky of Dickinson, Tim Kostelecky of Dickinson, Dorene (Jeff Thompson) Kostelecky-Wheeler of Elko, Nevada, Mary (Dennis) Zastoupil of Dickinson, Mike (Bobbi) Kostelecky of Grand Junction, Colorado, Jeff (LeeAnn) Kostelecky of Longmont, Colorado; sisters: Mary Rhode of Bismarck, Bette (Bert) Gottsacher of Gervais, Oregon, Rosemary (Don) Jablonsky of Argyli, Texas, and Fran Thompson of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; brothers: Pete Kostelecky of Dickinson, and Don (Pat) Kostelecky of Battle Lake, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pauline Kostelecky; one infant son; and one sister, Sophie.
