Funeral services for Eileen Evelyn Gaebe, 99, of New Salem, will 11:00 a.m. CDT, Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Peace Church in New Salem with Pastor Joshua Eddy officiating.  Burial will follow in Peace Cemetery.


Visitation for Eileen will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CDT, Wednesday, April 19 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.  Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.


Eileen passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.


Eileen Evelyn was born May 11, 1917 in New Salem, the 11
th
of 13 children, daughter of William and Caroline (Keller) Weiss.  She was raised and educated in the New Salem area.  Eileen married William Gaebe on June 23, 1940 at the home of Eileen’s parents.  Bill and Eileen were engaged in farming with Bill’s parents until 1942 when they moved to Schenectady, NY.  Bill worked as an inspector for the Army Signal Corps as a civilian and Eileen worked for G.E.  In the fall of 1945, they returned to New Salem and took over the family farm.  They ran the dairy operation for 24 years until health concerns made them seek other employment.  In April 1969, they moved to Minneapolis where Bill was employed at Coast to Coast Stores until their retirement in 1980.  At this time, they returned again to New Salem and built a new home where they enjoyed family and friends.  William passed away July 9, 2006 at Elm Crest, where he resided since February 2004.  Eileen was a member of Peace Church, Women’s Guild, Pioneer Club and she volunteered at Elm Crest Manor.


Eileen is survived by her son, Kenneth (Leslie) Gaebe, grandson, Scott Gaebe, granddaughter, Kate Gaebe, and great-grandson, Aiden all of New Port Richey, FL; sisters, Louise Norton of New Salem, and Loretta Daniels of St. Louis, MO; and sister-in-law, Gen Weiss.


She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Caroline Weiss; husband, William Gaebe; sisters, Maggie Vollrath, Clara Bahr, Emma Weiss, Theresa Schwartz and Ella Purfeerst; brothers, Willie, Harold, William, Herman and Arthur Weiss; sisters-in-law, Leona Weiss, Elda Weiss and Gladys (Chester) Toepke.
