Eleanor Gathright

A funeral Mass for Eleanor Gathright, 86, of Hebron, will be 11:00 a.m. CST, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Hebron with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating.  Burial will take place in St. Ann’s Cemetery.


Visitation for Eleanor will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. CST, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with a rosary at 10:00 a.m. CST.


Eleanor passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at her home near Hebron.


Eleanor Rebel was born August 1, 1931 on the family farm south of Richardton, the daughter of Valentine and Maria (Alpert) Rebel. She grew up and attended country school through the eighth grade. While she was working as a nanny, Eleanor met George Gathright while he was wiring the family’s home. The couple was married on February 1, 1951 in Taylor. George’s job had the couple moving often until they settled down in Savannah, GA for 18 years. It was during this time that they welcomed their son, George to the family. In 1955, the family moved to Hebron to be closer to family. Eleanor was known for her independent personality and enjoyed going to the casino, driving to town to see her friends and playing darts.


Eleanor is survived by her son, George V. (Chris) Gathright of Elgin; grandchildren, Devon (Elesha) McAlexander, Damian McAlexander, Dylan and fiancé, Katelyn (Tischmack) McAlexander, and Danielle Gathright; great-grandson, Jaxson; brothers, Richard Rebel of Hebron; Frank Rebel of Hebron, and Albert (Geraldin) Rebel of Idaho.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and sisters, Helen Raaf, Agnes Alpert and Marie Berger.
