Interment will follow in the Halmans Family Cemetery north of Baker. Visitation will be 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Tuesday, March 27th, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Eleanor passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Fallon County Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker. Eleanor Anna Halmans was born December 21, 1915 a daughter of Joseph Sr. and Anna (Lamplot) Votruba, south of Baker, near Willard in a blizzard. She was raised at the family ranch in the Fertile Prairie Community east of Baker, MT. She grew up working at a young age, leaving school many days to ride the country east of Baker to bring home the milk cows. She tended the sheep and helped cook for the threshing crews that traveled the Fertile Prairie area of her youth. Eleanor married Hubertus Halmans on April 18, 1942, in Miles City. They worked at Kinsey until Bert went to the Army in 1942, when she returned to the Votruba place. John J. was born in January 1943. In the spring of 1944 they purchased the farm north of Baker from the Haydal family. Summers were spent at the farm and winters in the town of Baker until December 0f 1951, when they moved to the farm permanently. After moving to the farm she took an active part in building the family farm, raising Herford cattle, hogs, and chickens. Eleanor lived on the farm for most of her life, until moving to Fallon County Nursing home in spring 2011 due to her health. She also found time to serve as the school clerk for District 7 for seven years, was an active member of the Fallon County Cow Bells for numerous years, and enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, hunting season, music and her grandkids. When gardening she particularly waited for the green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. Her cooking was second to none and she could stretch a meal many times to accommodate company that happened to show up at meal time. She loved to be involved in her grandkids and great grandkids lives. Hunting season was a special time waiting for apples and old friends to come from Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband Bert Halmans, son John J. Halmans of Baker, MT; grandchildren JoAnna Kotar (Ken), Hysham, MT, John D (Tanya), Joe of Baker, MT Jerome (Heidi) Monroe, WA, Jeff Halmans, Baker, MT; great-grandchildren Logan Kotar, Rosemount, MN and Brandan Kotar of Sheridan, WY (JoAnna), Cassie and Joey Halmans (Joe) of Baker, MT and Ashley and Nathan Halmans (Jerome) of Monroe, WA, and great-great-grandson Wade Halmans (Joey) of Baker, MT. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Anna, her sisters Helen Loutzenhiser, Mildred Braun, her brothers Joe and Fredric (Buddy) Votruba.
