Eleanor Clara Barta was born December 16, 1916 on the family farm in Billings County. She grew up and attended local country school. She later met William Kudrna and the two were married on June 26, 1934 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. The couple made their home on the farm 10 miles north of South Heart. Together they raised their family of six children: Ray, Alvin, Leonard, Sandra, Bill and Robbie. In 1956, the family moved to Dickinson, where they made their home ever since. Eleanor enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. No one ever left her home hungry. She also loved to spend time gardening, playing cards, BINGO, and listening & dancing to old time polka music. She had a fabulous sense of humor and loved to pick and joke with all of her family and friends. Family was Eleanor’s life; spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to her.
Eleanor is survived by one daughter, Sandra (John) Rodgers of Sandpoint, ID; four sons, Raymond (Leota) Kudrna of Plover, WI, Alvin (Edie) Kudrna of Janesville, WI, Bill Kudrna of Janesville, WI, and Robbi (Trina) of Dickinson, ND; one daughter-in-law, Gladys Kudrna of Millston, WI; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mary (Splichal) Barta; her husband, William; one son, Leonard; four brothers, Joe, Albert, Frank, and Tony; and seven sisters, Stacy, Lillian, Anna, Rose, Mary, Agnes, and Emma.
