Elizabeth "Betty" Smeltzer

Memorial Service for Betty Smeltzer, 99, of Baker, will be 1:00 pm, Friday, February 28, 2025 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker. Interment will follow at Bonnievale Cemetery.

Betty passed away February 20, 2025 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker.

Betty was born April 6, 1925 to Charles and Dessa (Prouty) Shepherd in Ollie, MT. She grew up in Ollie and graduated from Ollie High School. Pursuing her passion she received a teacher degree and dedicated her life to the children of Eastern Montana. Betty met and married Jerry Smeltzer on the Big Hill. To this union Robert was born. She taught at Hillside Country School until they moved to the Lame Jones area where she continued to teach at the Lame Jones Country School. Betty then taught at the Fertile Prairie County School and eventually finished her career at Lincoln Elementary in Baker. 

Betty will be missed greatly by her son, Robert (Joan) Smeltzer; grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Kaye, Kristen (Steven) Moody; great grandchildren, Garrett Kaye, Alan and Ryan Moody; and brother, Larry Shepherd. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Charlotte and Dorothy.
