Funeral Services for Elizabeth “Marie” Fox, 81, of Parshall, ND will be held at 1:00 p.m. CDT, Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Twin Buttes Community Hall with Pastor Marilyn Levine officiating. Burial will follow in the Twin Buttes Congregational Cemetery.
Visitation for Marie will be Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. MDT, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, ND. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. CDT at the Twin Buttes Community Hall in Twin Buttes, ND.
Marie passed away Saturday, October 27 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
Elizabeth Marie Smith was born March 30, 1931 in Independence, ND, the daughter of Allen and Emma Grace (Lanceowner) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Elbow woods, ND. Marie married Lee Fox in 1947 and the couple made their home in the Independence and Elbow woods area. Marie and Lee were blessed with 11 children. In 1970, Marie received her Nurse’s Assistance certificate from the United Tribes Training Center. She also attended school for Culinary Arts. Marie made her home in the Parshall area on the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Reservation. She enjoyed attending pow-wows, arts, crafts and sewing. Marie had a wonderful sense of humor and she was a very loving and devoted mother. Marie was a member of the Trinity Ladies Auxiliary of Minot, ND and a member of the Prairie Chicken Clan. Marie’s Hidatsa name is E-dah-ku-bey-wea (Owl Woman). She was a fluent speaker of the Hidatsa language and would share many humorous stories in her first language.
Marie is survived by her children, Amanda Lee (Don) Fox Winstead of Louisville, KY, Lee Fox Jr. (Elaine) of Parshall, ND, Betty (John) Fox Murphy of Parshall, ND, Sharon (Andrew) Grey of Waubay, SD, Lavetta Fox of New Town, ND, Darrell Fox of Underwood, ND, Jacqueline (Joe) Many Bears of Bismarck, ND, Will (Shawn Elan) Fox of Mobridge, SD, Palmer Fox of Parshall, ND, adopted sons, Brooks Good Iron of Spirit Lake, ND and Dennis Keahna Jr. of Tama, IA; 27 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Harley Fox; daughter, Luana Fox; grandson, Clayton Fox; granddaughter, Danielle Lowe; four brothers and four sisters.
