Funeral Mass for Elizabeth ?Betty? Steckler, 83, of Glen Ullin will be 1:30 p. m. CST, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with Father Arul Joseph celebrating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation for Betty will be from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. , CST, Friday, October 14, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary and prayer service being held at 6:00 p. m. CST. Betty passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin, ND. Elizabeth Hegel was born June 3, 1928 in Almont, ND, daughter of John and Clementine (Scheetz) Hegel. She grew up and attended school near Almont. After graduating from St. Mary?s High School in Richardton, ND, Betty attended Dickinson Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. After college, Betty began teaching country school in the St. Joseph?s area. On October 26, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Mike Steckler at St. Joseph?s Church south of Glen Ullin. As a newly married wife, she continued to teach for a few years. Together, Betty and Mike farmed and raised their family of eight children; DelRay, David, Denise, Donna, Dennis, Danny, Diane and Daryl. In 1994, the couple retired and moved to Glen Ullin where they have made their home since. Betty enjoyed spending time in her garden, sewing, and creating many different craft and ceramic projects. She was fond of quilting and lovingly created quilts for each of her children and grandchildren to enjoy. Betty loved to bake and would create beautifully decorated cakes for any occasion or gathering. Betty was a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers and Homemakers Club. She taught CCD and was a Eucharistic Minister for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty served as an election clerk volunteer, was a 4-H Leader and worked with the Glen Ullin Museum. Betty is survived by her husband, Mike of Glen Ullin; three sons, David (special friend, Noreen) of Hazen, Dennis (DeAnn) of Menoken, and Daryl (Twyla) of Glen Ullin; three daughters, Denise (Richard) Sander of Bismarck, Donna (Chris) Seifert of Bismarck, and Diane (Wayne) Hoger of New Salem; one son-in-law, Dean Scoular of Valley City; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandhcildren; four brothers, Jerry (Iona) Hegel of Bismarck, Delbert (Janice) Hegel of AZ, Raymond (Pat) Hegel of WA and Tom (Mary Jo) Hegel of IA; and one sister, Rose Reinbold of Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Danny; one daughter DelRay Scoular; one daughter-in-law, Nickie Steckler; and four brothers.
