Funeral Services for Ella Hitchcock, 94, of Baker will be 11:00 a. m. , Thursday,January 10, 2008 at First Baptist Church, Baker, MT. with Pastor Levi Durfey officiating. Visitation will be on 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Wednesday followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ella passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Ella was born on September 6, 1913 the daughter of Karl R. and Mary (Haftl) Pleissner. She moved with her parents as a young girl to the Baker area where Ella grew up and attended school, graduating from the Baker High School in 1932. She attended MSU and received a major degree in Art and a minor in English. She later attended Columbia University in New York where she received her degree in Occupational Therapy Specialist in mental health. She kept her license until 1997. Ella taught for 5 ? years in Custer County, the Junior College in Miles City and in Baker at the High School. Ella was married to Vern R. Hitchcock on February 9, 1951 in Baker. Together they lived and made Baker their home for the next 57 years. They made their home on the former Mengel Farm until 1995 when they moved into town. Ella was a member of the Southeastern Montana Community Mental Health Association and in 1997 served as treasurer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church which she served as clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and was active in the Mission Circle. Ella was selected First Lady of the Year in 1995 by the local Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved and enjoyed her children, her church family and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Verne, Baker, MT; two sons, Paul Hitchcock, St. Louis, MO and Dave Hitchcock, Baker, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Dr. Karl, Neil, Paul Pleissner, and an infant brother; three sisters, Lorentine Clark, Ruth Blaustien and Rosemary Laskey; and a ? sister, Elisabeth Pleissner.
