Funeral Services for Ellen Urban, 86, of Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at Belfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dieterle officiating. Burial will follow at the Belfield Lutheran Cemetery.


Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.


Ellen passed away on her mother’s birthday, October 30, 2010 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson, North Dakota.


Ellen A. Brennan was born September 10, 1924, to David D. and Clara (Bergstad) Brennan.  She grew up and attended school in Billings County.  On October 19, 1943, Ellen was united in marriage to William Urban and made their home in the Fryburg area.  Together the raised their family of 9 children, Dorothy, Duane, David, LaDonna, Charlotte, Jeff, Bruce, Dwight and Sandra.


Ellen worked as a seamstress and cooked for the Badlands Ministry Camp, Bowman Manor and Green Thumb.  She enjoyed Bible studies, visiting with family and friends, attending family gatherings, good jokes and fun.  Ellen loved to cook and was well known for her fried chicken and homemade bread.  She would reach out to anybody who would come by in need and hold their hand or try to help.  Ellen especially loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Ellen is survived by four sons, David (Bertha) Urban, Belfield, Jeff (Naomi) Urban, Belfield, Bruce (Loretta) Urban, Barstow, CA and Dwight (Laurie) Urban, Dickinson; four daughters, Dorothy, (Leonard) Makowski, Belfield, LaDonna (John) Hutzenbiler, Fryburg, Charlotte (William) Martian, Rhame, and Sandra Ridl, South Heart; one daughter-in-law, Delores Urban, Leyman, WA; 2 brothers Daniel (Irene) Brennan, Amidon and Frank “Jack” (Betty) Brennan, Rozet, WY; 2 sisters, Betty Cambell, Dickinson and Thelma (Ted) Bohn, Sentinal Butte, 35 Grandchildren, 80 Great-Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; one son, Duane Urban; one brother, David and four sisters Ida Brennan, Gloria Brennan, Francis Brennan and Violet Brennan and five grandchildren, Billy, Michael, Sharon, Angel and Edward.
