Funeral Mass for Elsie Rech, 88, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Visitation for Elsie will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil Service being held at 7:00 p.m.
After suffering a stroke on Sunday, February 19, Elsie passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson surrounded by her family.
Elsie Goetz was born February 20, 1924 in Richardton, ND, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Bartel) Goetz. She grew up and attended the Plum Creek Country School in the Richardton area. As a young girl, Elsie helped set up the barn dances which were held at the Goetz family barn. On November 8, 1943, Elsie and Peter Rech were united in marriage in Richardton. To this union three children were born: Bill, Kenneth and Gayle. Together, the couple farmed and raised their children southeast of Dickinson. Due to Peter’s health, they retired in 1974 and moved into Dickinson where she has made her home since. Elsie enjoyed spending time in her kitchen cooking, baking strudel & pig ears, and noodlemaking. She loved to tend to her garden & canning the produce, dancing & listening to old time music, completing word search puzzles and playing Bingo. Elsie especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They put a smile and glow on Elsie’s face when they were all together. Elsie was a member of the St. Anthony Club, German Hungarian Club and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Elsie is survived by her three children: Bill of Broomfield, CO, Kenneth (Viola) of Rochester, MN and Gayle (Patrick) Bren of Dickinson; ten grandchildren, Lynda (Steve) Davis, Lois (Dave) Mogler, Brian (Kari) Rech, Leah Rech, Kimberly (Steve) Kleis, Allen Rech, Ryan (Stephanie) Rech, Lonna (Michael) Hill, Aimee (Thomas) Segars, and Kari (Matthew) Raab; and 21 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Courtney, Jeremy, Joshua, Joseph, Breanna, Cirianna, Jade, Cameron, Conner, Erin, Kaison, Savannah, Jonathon, Liam, Elizabeth, Thomas, Abigail, Xavier, Deacon and Bridget.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; one great-grandson, Dalton Davis; seven brothers, Nick, John, Carl, Frank, Ed, Bill and Alfred; and two sisters, Mary Rech and Anna Portscheller.
Memorials may be given to St. Benedict’s Health Center, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice.
