A Funeral Service for Elsie Wetzel, 88, of Glen Ullin, will be held at 11:00 a. m. CDT, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Bethel Assembly of God, Glen Ullin. Burial will take place later this spring. Visitation for Elsie will be Friday, April 22, 2011, from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. CDT at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Glen Ullin with a Prayer Service being held at 5:00 p. m. CDT. Elsie passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, ND. Elsie Heid was born July 17, 1922 on the family farm near New Salem, ND, the daughter of Phillip and Emma (Seeger) Heid. She grew up and attended school near Youngtown, ND. As a young lady, she worked as a nanny in Mandan for several years. On September 19, 1944, Elsie married Willie Wetzel at Mandan, ND. To this union four children were born: Clarence, Jim, Bonnie & Kelly. Together they moved to a farm northeast of Glen Ullin where they raised their family. Elsie enjoyed sewing, embroidering, puzzles and reading. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church and participated in local Bible studies. Elsie was well known for taking her time telling stories as well as being a good baker where one of her specialties was fleischkekla. Spending time with her family was very important to Elsie. She greatly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all the gatherings with them. Elsie is survived by her three sons, Clarence (Stacey) Wetzel, New Salem, Jim (Shari) Wetzel, Bismarck, Kelly (Julie) Wetzel, Minot; one daughter, Bonnie (Alvin) Schultz, Mandan; three sisters, Hilda Schultz, New Salem, Frieda Jones, Colby, KS and Esther McConnell of Veblen, SD; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; her parents, Phillip and Emma Heid; two brothers Pete Heid and Edwin Heid; and two sisters, Helen Morgenstern and Wilma Robertson.
