Tuffy passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka. Elvin Charles Peabody was born in Minkeo, OK on February 2, 1923, a son of Walter and Mary (Hill) Peabody. Tuffy, as he was known, moved to the family ranch south of Ekalaka at a very young age. He grew up on the ranch and attended country school. Following school, Tuffy worked as a ranch hand until he was able to buy his own spread in the Ekalaka Hills. Tuffy met and later married his sweetheart, LaVerne Ruth Speiser, in Ekalaka on October 11, 1944. LaVerne had a son, Robert, from a previous marriage and to this union Ron, Roger and Sherry were born. The family was complete with four children. With his love for the great outdoors, Tuffy found great enjoyment in ranching and farming. He felt most at home on the back of a good quarter horse. A great love of his was to saddle a good horse with his granddaughter and check cows. In 1991, Tuffy and LaVerne moved into Ekalaka until 2004 when LaVerne passed away. He then moved back to the ranch until 2008. Then he made his home at Dahl Memorial Healthcare until the time of his death. Tuffy had a great work ethic. The work was done before the play. He always got a kick out of fox hunting on snowmobiles with family and friends. Hunting and fishing were hobbies he liked. When given the opportunity, Tuffy was able to show his gift of gab! Tuffy is survived by his children, Ronald (Loretta) Peabody, Quartzsite, AZ and Sherry (Kenneth) Staneart, Boswell, OK; six grandchildren, Rhonda Schneider, Pamela Harrison, Connie Hamilton, Charlie Ingram, Warnie Ingram and Angela Hamilton; eleven great-grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, Sharon Moll and Jackie Goroski; a sister-in-law, Barbara Peabody and numerous nieces and nephews.
