Emil Fried was born on September 3, 1913, to George and Wilhemina (Ehret) Fried on the family farm at Medicine Rocks in southern Fallon County. Emil grew up on the farm and attended the Medicine Rocks Country School. It was through his early boyhood life that he found a passion for farming. Emil met a young woman named Clara Klos, and on April 4, 1937, Clara and Emil were married in the Congregational Church in Plevna, MT. Shortly after their marriage, the young couple moved to St. Ignatius, MT where they worked together on a dairy farm. Emil also worked for a brief time handling dynamite for a large dam building project. After a year in the western part of the state, Emil and Clara came back to Fallon County settling in the Willard area where they rented a farm. As Emil?s love for the land grew, he decided to purchase his own farm south of Baker. For over forty years Emil raised cattle and wheat on the family farm. Emil and Clara moved into Baker in the early 1980?s. Emil continued to be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the family farm until 2005. It was then that Emil moved to Quality Personal Care in Baker and resided there until July of 2006, when he entered the Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home where he resided until his death. Emil was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Baker. He never missed a chance to let his Lord and Savior know how thankful he was for what He had provided him in life. Emil enjoyed farming his land, raising cattle, and when able, traveling throughout the United States to visit his children; he even traveled to Hawaii, the Bahamas and Japan. Emil?s real love was for his family. Emil is survived by four sons: Arlee (Ramona) Fried, Plevna, MT; Raymond (Twyla) Fried, Spokane, WA; Dennis (Margaret) Fried, Tucson, AZ; and Conlan (Lola) Fried, Baker, MT; three daughters: Delila (David) Burnworth, Vista, CA; Linda (Cliff) Bergstedt, Savage, MT; and Janice (Darrel) Buller, Richey, MT; one brother: William Fried, Miles City, MT; two sisters: Tillie Wenz, Salem, OR and Ella Hale, Loveland, CO; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
