Funeral Mass for Emil Thomas Kubas, 87 of Dickinson will be 1:00 p. m. , Saturday, January 22, 2005 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Austin Vetter, Celebrating. Honor Guard will be by the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. Entombment will follow in the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2005 from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service by Deacon Jerry Volk at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 a. m. to 12:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Emil passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Emil Thomas Kubas was born April 6, 1917 in Stark County, the son of Joe J. and Mary (Ridl) Kubas. He grew up and attended country schools. He worked with his parents on the family farm. Emil enjoyed playing with several dance bands. He played the button accordion along with the trumpet and trombone. On June 16, 1941, Emil was married to Dorothy Kudrna at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. They moved to a farm in Dunn County where they farmed until moving to Dickinson in 1950. Emil still farmed along with carpentering in the Dickinson area. Emil semi-retired in 1980 and they continued to make Dickinson their home. Throughout the years, he stayed very active in playing with the dance bands along with being a member of the Czech group. He was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church for many years, St. Anthony?s Club, the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight. He loved and enjoyed following his grandchildren in all of their sports and helping his children with different projects around their homes. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Dickinson; two sons: Donovan R. (Patricia) Kubas of Minot and Quentin E. (Karen) Kubas of Bismarck; three daughters: Marie Piette of Prior Lake, MN, Rita (Robert) Willer of Fargo, ND and Laurie (Paul) Steffes of Dickinson; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, David Piette; one brother, Albert Kubas and three sisters: Rose Fridrich, Mary Pavlish and Mildred Kovash.
