Emma passed away April 20, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson surrounded by her family.

Emma (Buresh) Jaeger was born May 10, 1924 on the Buresh family farm north of Belfield, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Marsh) Buresh.  As a young girl, she attended a country school near the farm and St. Peter and Paul’s Grade School in New Hradec; she graduated from Model High School in Dickinson in 1942. Emma briefly attended Dickinson State Normal School, now known as Dickinson State University.  In 1942 she began working for Montgomery Ward and worked there until 1947.  On October 20, 1947, Emma married Willard Jaeger at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson.  Their marriage was blessed with five children:  Rebecca, Rodney, Barbara, Galen and Lucilla.  Together, Emma and Willard farmed and raised their family north of Dickinson on the Jaeger family farm.  In 1979 they moved, making Dickinson their home.

Emma began working at JoAnn’s Fabric in 1978, working there until 1993.  She became an employee at the Country & More Store in 1993. She graciously assisted customers, sharing her experiences with and knowledge of working with fabrics and home décor. At the age of 82, she retired and devoted her time to her family, friends, and home. Emma made many quilts for her children, grandchildren, and the new great-grandbabies.  She enjoyed doing needlework, decorating her home, sewing, baking, and cooking.  Many of her recipes are favorites of the family to this day; most of them being for German and Bohemian ethnic foods. Holidays and special events were highlights to her for gathering and entertaining family and friends. Times spent having coffee or a meal around the dining room table are greatly treasured. Emma was a member of Queen of Peace and was a founding member.

Emma is survived by her children: Becky (Jim) Meduna of Dickinson; Rod (Cindy) Jaeger of Dickinson; Barb (Neal) Johnson of Bismarck; Galen (Kay) Jaeger of Benicia, CA; Lucy (Mel) Barth of Bismarck; 14 grandchildren: Boyd, Aura, Channing, Jadon, Ashlyn, Tia, Tyler, Kaylen, Kylen, Mandie, Ashley, Michael, Alyssa, and Abby; 15 great-grandchildren; sister: Clara Volesky; sisters-in-law: Elaine (Jim McConkie) Candee of San Francisco, CA; Diane Douglass of Salt Lake City, UT; Patti Jaeger of Oakland, CA; brother-in-law: Don (Judy) Dire of Dickinson; and two namesakes, Emma Meduna and Emma Volesky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard (October 2017); parents: Frank and Barbara Buresh; brothers: William, Anton, and Frank Buresh; sisters: Victoria Pirkl, Cecilia Black, and Rose Sadowsky; father and mother-in-law: Peter J. and Barbara Jaeger; step-mother-in-law: Katherine Jaeger; six sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, and six nieces and nephews.
