Funeral Mass for Emma Markel, 100, of Dickinson is 10:30 a. m. , Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with Father Dennis Schafer celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p. m. to 9 p. m. , Monday, at the Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil being held at 8 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, from 8 a. m. to 9 a. m. at the chapel. Emma passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Emma A. Ridl was born on January 27, 1907, in Stark County the daughter of Louis and Mariana (Stransky) Ridl. Emma grew up and attended country and South Heart schools. She had worked as a babysitter and housekeeper as a young girl. Emma was married to Tony A. Markel in Dickinson on May 20, 1930 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They lived in Belfield, New Hradec and since 1944 in Dickinson. She was a member of the Rosary Society of New Hradec, St. Ann?s of St. Joseph?s and the Eagles Auxiliary in Dickinson. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. Emma especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always willing to help anyone in need in spite of her limited resources. Survivors include, two daughters, Charlotte Markel and Bernice Mueller both of Dickinson; a son, Raymond (Beth) Markel, Dover, FL; a sister, Mildred Rios, Grand Rapids, MI; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Markel, Sunnyvale, CA; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tony, two sons, Kenneth and Edwin; and a sister, Mary Sietsema
