Emma passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson, ND. Emma Chalupnik was born April 18, 1919 to Joseph and Emily (Honz) Chalupnik on the family farm northeast of Belfield, ND. Emma grew up and attended Spring Creek School # 2. After school she continued to work on the farm for several years. On June 25, 1940, Emma married Albert Privratsky at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. The couple made their home on a farm west of Dickinson for a couple of years before moving to the family farm south of Dickinson. It was here where they raised their family of four children: Laudie, Alice, Diane and Rose. Emma and Albert retired to their home in Dickinson in the mid 1970’s. Emma continued to make her home here after Albert passed away in 1992. She moved into Benedict Court in 2003 and then to St. Benedict’s Health Center in 2012. Emma believed strongly in sharing, both her time and of herself. Faith was very important to Emma and she stayed very active at St. Wenceslaus and served on St. Ann’s Altar Society where she served countless funeral lunches. She was also a member of the Czech heritage. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and raising chickens and geese. She was an excellent cook and known for her kolache’s and angel food cake. Emma also enjoyed embroidery, listening to old time music, dancing and playing Bingo. She was a perfectionist in everything she did. Taking a shortcut was not an option for her. She was very honest and will be remembered for responding to life’s challenges with her line, “That’s life. “Emma is survived by her son, Laudie (Jean) Privratsky of Dickinson; daughters, Alice (Ron) Dukart and Diane (Gene) Hoyt of Dickinson, and Rose (Roger) Richard of Belfield; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Laurie (Cedric) McCulloch, Jesse and Alex; Melinda (Dave) Cuevas, Isaiah; Justin (Nozomi) Privratsky, Jaden and Mason; Chad (Laura) Dukart, Tyler and Drew; Michelle (Michael) Branco, Gabriel and Emile; Amy (Scott) Olson, Sophia and Sadie; Dana (Ryan) Roshau, Lily and Sela; Kelley (Katie) Dukart, Adam and Noah; Susie (Raymond) Veverka, Danielle (Alex) Schiff (great-great-grandson Blake Thomas), Katie, Mark, Emma Jean, and Grace; Cory (Tammy) Hoyt, Sydney; Becky (Jon Erik) Holm-Johansen, Elliott; Jason (Michelle) Richard, Maizie, Lane and Gabe; Ben (Jessica) Richard; Jackson, Jones and Alexa; Dusty (Christina) Richard, Clay, Cole and Clint; Megan (fiancé Trent Oschner) Richard; and Caleb Frantz.
