Emma passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Emma Rose was born on January 3, 1927 on the family farm ten miles southwest of Dickinson, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Anna (Splichal) Dvorak. She grew up on the farm and attended Wildrose Country School through the seventh grade. After completing her education, Emma worked on the family farm before moving to Dickinson. Her first job was washing dishes at the Bonton Bakery. Later, Emma worked at the Cozy Lunch Café, NoDak Motel, followed by a position at White Drug. It was while working at the Lariat Café that Emma met her future husband, Lawrence “Larry” Sanders. Emma and Larry were united in marriage on September 22, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union, four children were born. Together, the family made their home in Dickinson.
Emma was a hardworking lady. While raising her family, she cleaned offices for Mackoff Kellogg Law Firm and the Carlson Building. Before retiring, Emma was the housekeeper for the St. Wenceslaus Parish priests for 11 years.
Emma enjoyed spending time in her kitchen baking kolaches and caramel rolls, and having coffee with good friends. She was a devoted wife and mother and looked forward to family gatherings. Emma especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.
Emma is survived by her daughter, Gayleen (Tom) Frenzel of Dickinson; sons, Wayne (Lorna) Sanders of Fargo, Myron (Andrea) Sanders of Portland, OR, Conrad (Donna) Sanders of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Scott Sanders, Mark (Danni) Sanders, Jared Sanders, Hannah Sanders, Emily (Ryan) Ernst, Bethany (Tommy) Morris and Jesse Frenzel; and five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Dvorak; husband, Lawrence Sanders; seven brothers; and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Benedict’s Health Center in Emma’s memory.
