Emma Schopp was born in Woodworth, Dunn County, ND on July 18, 1915, a daughter of Karl and Margaretha (Stuber) Singer. She grew up on the family farm and attended the local school. Following school, Emma stayed home to help her parents with the farm work. Emma was a hard and dedicated worker. Still she was able to catch the eye of a young man by the name of Christian Schopp. After a courtship, Emma and Christian were married on September 13, 1933 in Manning, ND. They were blessed with two children, Evelyn and Marvin. Following their marriage, Emma and Christ moved to the Plevna area where they worked on a farm. It was during this time that Evelyn was born. Shortly after they moved to the Fairview area where Christ worked the beet fields. While living at Fairview, Marvin was born. The young family would eventually return to Fallon County where they would live on a farm south of Baker. In 1944, Emma, Christ and their children moved into Baker where they made their home. Growing up and raising a family during the dirty 30?s, Emma knew what it took to succeed in life. It was that same dedication, determination and work ethic that guided her when she went to work at the old Baker Hospital. Emma enjoyed her work, caring and helping others. She also worked with a mid-wife and cared for many babies that were born in Baker. She was a dedicated and skilled nurse?s aide. Emma would eventually become the purchasing clerk at Fallon Medical, a job she faithfully held until her retirement. After her retirement from the hospital, Emma spent her time at her home working in the yard and visiting neighbors and friends. She loved flowers and yard ornaments. Her displays in her front yard stopped many passing by. When not busy in the yard she enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren and doing crossword puzzles. Emma?s greatest enjoyment in life was for her family which included her many nieces and nephews. Emma was a member of the Baker Community Church. Emma passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Fallon County Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker.
