Emma Schutz, age 95, was enfolded into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, September 20, 2007, following a life of deep and quiet faith. She had been a resident of the Mandan Care Center, and formerly of Hebron. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 1:30 pm Central Time in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hebron. Visitation will be held on Monday after 4:00 pm at Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Congregational Cemetery. Emma was born January 30, 1912 in the Burt, ND area, the daughter of Martin and Mathilda (Jeichner) Knittel. She was raised and educated in the Burt area, and worked on the family farm until her marriage. On October 24, 1935 she married Carl W. Schutz at the Neuberg Church. Following marriage they farmed near Burt until 1943 when they moved to a farm south of Elgin. They moved to Hebron in 1946. Emma was a devoted housewife and mother; she enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, planning meals, new recipes, and playing cards. Emma kept her mind active by doing math on paper, crosswords, and reading. In 1958 they opened the Hebron Recreation and Sport Center where Emma and Carl spent 25 years in the sporting good business. In their spare time they loved to go fishing. Emma was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church, and was once a member of the Guiding Light Society, Ladies Aid, and the choir. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Clarence and Nancy Schutz, Wahpeton, ND; Orville and Beverly Schutz, Walpole, Mass; and three daughters and sons-in-law: Cynthia and Gene Hersrud, Sun City, AZ; Eileen and Jim Wolf, New Salem, ND; and Claudia and Dan Deardorff, Kennewick, WA, 17 grand children and 14 great grand children; and one sister: Edna Herrell, Arcadia, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sisters: Emelia, Frieda, Ida, and Bertha, and her brothers: Thomas, Henry, Reinhold, Otto, Rudy, and John. **The family suggests memorials to American Macular Degeneration Foundation P.
