A Family Receiving Friends service for Emmett Thomas ?Tom? McLaughlin, 80, of Baker, MT will be Monday, August 13, 2012 from 4:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. , concluding with Military Rites at 6:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, MT. Burial will be at a later date. Tom passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Fallon County Medical Complex Hospital in Baker, MT. Family requests all condolences be sent to Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT. Emmett Thomas McLaughlin was born July 28, 1932 in Kalispell, Montana, the son of Emmett and Helen McLaughlin. He moved with his parents to Lewistown, Montana, where he attended grade school. Tom enlisted into the US Navy, serving during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Eastern Montana. Tom married Claudia Sleeth and to this union Carrie, Carl and Wes were born. Tom managed several bars in the Baker area. He later married Marilyn Hayden in Baker and to this union Renee entered the family. In 1974, Tom began working in Baker Oilfields and continued until the mid 1990?s, at which time he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He also enjoyed family gatherings and going to brandings around the country. Tom is a lifetime member of the American Legion, the V. F. W. , and he served on the Board of Directors of the American Legion Club. He was also a member of the American Lutheran Church. Tom is survived by his sons, Wes McLaughlin, Baker, Kevin (Debbie) Newell and Dale (Kathy) Newell of Baker, MT; daughters, Carrie (Mark) Anderson of Florence, MT, Sharee Newell and Renee McLaughlin of Baker, MT; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons, Carl; brother, Russell and sisters, Mary, Myrna and Dollie.
