Erma Treiber, age 97, of the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin and formerly of Hebron, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Marian Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Central time on Monday September 25, 2006 at the St. John Church in Hebron with the Rev. Martin Nussbaum, officiating. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Hebron. Erma was born on April 17, 1909 on the family farm rural Hebron, the daughter of George and Katherine (Duppong) Ding. She was raised on the farm and educated in Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School. She attended Dickinson Teacher College and also Valley City Teachers College. She taught school in rural Mercer County for two years. She married John Treiber on March 17, 1930. They lived on the Mary Treiber farm east of Hebron during the time of the Great Depression. After seven years of no rain, and very low prices, they bought a Gambles store in Richardton. Soon after the rains came prices on cattle and grain soared, and farming was better. Two children were born to John and Erma, Wallace in 1930 and Duane in 1933. They were raised on the farm and educated in Hebron. Wallace attended and graduated from NDSU and was stationed in Washington, DC as a Second Lieutenant and later with the Dept. of Defense until his retirement in 1987. Duane graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he founded and owned Custom Mold and Design, in Minneapolis, and Austech Mold and Design in Austin, TX. He sold both companies in 2001 and is now retired in Arizona. Erma and John continued faming, and were active in many civic organizations, soil conservation, REA, and farm organizations. They worked tirelessly for many years to get rural electrification to all the farms, and in 1946 saw the reality of their labor. Erma would say in later years ?Electricity was the one thing that improved life on the farm and brought rural living to modern standards. ? She was also active in 4-H, a County director of Farmers Union for 15 years, active in the church where she taught Sunday School for 40 years, and held executive positions in the Women?s Guild. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens and a charter member of the Happy Homemakers Club for 69 years. Erma loved music, and used her talents as a pianist and program director for many organizations, groups, and social functions. In 1967 her husband died of a sudden heart attack and moved to Minneapolis for two years. In 1970 she had a new home built in Hebron where she resided for the next 31 years. Due to health reasons moved to the Waterford in Bismarck. She later transferred to the Edgewood Vista. In September of 2004 she moved closer to home in the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin. Erma enjoyed many hours of musical entertainment spent at the organ and piano. She enjoyed traveling though out the United States and parts of Europe, but most of all she cherished the friendship of family, friends, and the many people you meet in nearly a century of living. She is survived by her two sons: Wallace and wife Carol, of Harwood, Maryland, and Duane and wife Shirley, of Surprise, AZ. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and one sister Esther Rohs, of Sun Lakes, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband John, five brothers and three sisters.
