Erna Hintz

Funeral services for Erna Hintz, 92, of Glen Ullin, ND will be 10:00 a.m.,CDT, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glen Ullin with Pastor Marcy Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical Congregational Cemetery.


Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,CDT, Monday, July 18, 2011 at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Glen Ullin, continuing on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, one hour prior to the service.


Erna passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin, ND.


Erna L. Berreth was born May 15, 1919 in Morton County, the daughter of Carl (Charles) and Magdalena (Schatz) Berreth. She grew up near Glen Ullin, attending country school. As a young girl, she helped with the raising of her siblings due to the death of Lena at a young age. On August 21, 1937, Erna was united in marriage to Emil Hintz. To this union three children, Judy, Dennis and Nina were born. As a young family they farmed south of Glen Ullin and in 1961 they moved to a farm west of Glen Ullin. In 1977, they moved into Glen Ullin where they have made their home. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and listening to religious music. Erna taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glen Ullin. In 2000, the Marion Manor became her new home. She loved her grandchildren and cherished spending time with them.


Erna is survived by her son Dennis (Ava) Hintz of Glen Ullin, and her daughter Nina Hintz of Jamestown; brother Roy Berreth of San Mateo, CA; grandchildren Mara Hintz and April Stenberg.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Emil; infant daughter Judy Julaine Hintz; brother Ingram Berreth and half-brother Ray Ritz; sister Edith Mierly and sister-in-law Dorothy Berreth.
