Funeral Mass for Ernest Bayer, 76 of Dickinson is 1:00 p. m. Saturday, June 4, 2005 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Austin Vetter celebrating. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick?s Cemetery in Dickinson with Military Rites by the Dickinson Veteran?s Drill Team. Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2005 from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. at the Chapel. Ernest passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Ernie was born August 28, 1928 at Lefor, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Weber) Bayer. He grew up on the family farm near Lefor and attended St. Elizabeth?s School in Lefor. When Ernie was 18, he moved with his family to Dickinson and began working for Kovash Construction in 1947. Ernie was married to Angeline Schmidt on September 20, 1948 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. He enlisted in the 164th Infantry National Guard on September 17, 1948 and entered active service at Camp Rucker, Alabama on January 16, 1951. He was honorably discharged in May of 1951. Ernie and Angie continued to make Dickinson their home where Ernie continued employment with Kovash Construction. From 1954 to 1964 he worked as a construction foreman with Kolling Construction and continued as a foreman with F&J Construction beginning in 1964 until his retirement in 1991. Ernie was a skilled wood crafter. After his retirement, one would generally find him in his workshop relaxing and creating, be it a toy, a wall hanging or furniture. Ernie enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed the time with his grandchildren. He was an avid pro wrestling fan and never missed a match if he could help it. Ernie was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson where he served as an usher for many years, the Knights of Columbus Council #1515 and a Life Member of the Eagles Club. Survivors include his wife, Angie of Dickinson; two sons: Donald (Cay) Bayer of Overland Park, KS and Kent (Michelle) Bayer of Palatine, IL; two daughters: Karla Reindel of Dickinson and Laure Bayer (Rick Sanborn) of Tacoma, WA; three grandchildren: Tracy (MacKenzie) Reindel, Catie Bayer and Logan Bayer; one great-grandchild, Austin Tysver; one brother, Frank (Bertha) Bayer of Sacramento, CA; and three sisters: Theresa Knaup of Dickinson, Ann (Albert) Sevela of Dickinson and Mary (Frank) Reindel of Roseville, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Hollinger; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Knaup and a son-in-law, Ray ?Butch? Reindel.
