Funeral Mass for Ernest “Ernie” Heidecker, 85, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.


Visitation for Ernie will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a rosary service being held at 7:00 p.m.


Ernie was born November 14, 1932 at home, on the farm, south of Taylor, the son of Joe T. and Mary Ann (Schmidt) Heidecker. As a young boy, he attended Aurora #4 Taylor school through the eighth grade. Ernie served in the US Army. In 1957, he was honorably discharged. Upon returning, he moved back to Dickinson and worked for Nick Schmidt, City of Dickinson and later as a foreman for Fisher Sand & Gravel from 1966 – 1997. Ernie married Kathleen Abfalder on July 21, 1954. They were blessed with four children, Wayne, Clyde, Adele and Lisa. Together they raised their family in Dickinson. He enjoyed farming, horses, roping, rebuilding horse drawn equipment, braiding ropes and making harnesses. Ernie was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, Eagles Club, German Hungarian and St. Anthony Club.


Ernie is survived by his sons, Wayne (Brenda) Heidecker and Clyde (Twyla) Heidecker, both of Dickinson; daughters, Adele Howell (Jim Stoltz) and Lisa Chichester, both of Dickinson; brothers, Ervin (Florence) Heidecker of Dickinson, Louis (Willma) Heidecker of Eugene, OR, Stanley (Bonnie) Heidecker of Dickinson, Clayton (Kathy) Heidecker of Dickinson; sisters, Marge Willis of Eugene, OR, Julie Olson of Lochbuie, CO; five grandchildren, Tyler, Tyrah, Ethan, Amber, and Jesse; and four step-grandchildren, Tyler Stoltz, Brittany (Lalo) Stoltz-Dobbins, Shawn Stoltz, and Derek Dutton.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Ann Heidecker, wife, Kathleen Heidecker (1995); brother, Virgil Heidecker; sisters-in-law, Angela Heidecker and Diane Heidecker; and brothers-in-law, Jack Willis and Richard Olson.
