A funeral service for Ernest “Ernie” Hellickson, 72, of Dickinson, will be 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Russell Fitch officiating. Burial will take place in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation for Ernie will be 4:00 pm-6:00 pm, Wednesday, July 1st at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a family service and sharing being held at 6:00 p. m. Ernie passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home. Ernest Christian was born July 28, 1942 in Scobey, MT, the son of Clarence and Olive (Neiland) Hellickson. Growing up he attended and graduated from school in Scobey. He also attended Northwest Missouri State College for a short time. In 1962, Ernie went to serve in the US Army. He served in the Vietnam War while he was stationed in Thailand in the army corps of engineers. He was honored to be selected for the 21 Gun Salute to honor JFK’s death at the base in Fort Knox. Ernie was honorably discharged in 1965. He then went to work in the oilfield in Plentywood, MT. Ernie married Jean Renner on November 5, 1966 in Plentywood. They were blessed with two sons, Justin and Travis. In 1972, they moved to Dickinson where Ernie started Ernie’s Hot Oil Service. Two years later, his business became HB&R Inc. with his partners, Al Renner and Orvie Berg. Ernie loved driving his team of horses, working cattle on his ranch and his biggest love was being with his grandchildren. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elks and Veterans. Ernie is survived by his wife, Jean of Dickinson; sons, Justin (Annie) Hellickson of Fort Collins, CO and Travis (Amber) Hellickson of Dickinson; six grandchildren, Chance, Logan, Elijah, Macie, Cutler and Jaxson; brother, Merle (Sherrie) Hellickson of Provo, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Olive; sister, Clara Mae; brothers, Neil, K. O. and infant brother, Oscar Hellickson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the COPD Foundation.
