Ernest Kinnischtzke, age 84, a resident of the Marian Manor Health Care Center, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, at 10:00 AM Central Time at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 311 Ash Avenue in Glen Ullin with Pastor Marcy Dawson, officiating. Burial will be held in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery rural Mandan, with military rites by the VFW of Bismarck. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8 pm at Spangelo Funeral Home in Glen Ullin with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Ernest was born May 18, 1922 in Glen Ullin the son of Carl and Barbara (Ding) Kinnischtzke. He was raised on the family farm north of Glen Ullin. He entered the US Navy on June 8, 1944 and served in the Pacific on board a Landing Ship Tank. After he was discharged on May 7, 1946 he returned to the area and farmed with his brother Oscar. Ernest married Delores Kaelberer, September 23, 1950 in Glen Ullin. Shortly after their marriage they bought the Himmelspach farm near Glen Ullin where they raised grains, dairy and beef cattle. Ernest enjoyed woodworking, going to auction sales, and playing cards. After they retired they continued to reside on the farm until for health reasons entered the Marian Manor Health Care Center early in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores, Glen Ullin; two daughters: Janel Schneider, New Salem; Janice (Robert) Baumann of Bottineau, ND; and two sons: Russell (Beverly), Dickinson and Rodney, of Glen Ullin and six grandchildren: Ann Schneider, Carl Schneider, Amy Schneider, Emily (Pete) Cumings, Andrew Baumann, and Nathan Kinnischtzke. He also leaves his brother, Werner Kinnischtzke, Tappen, ND and sisters: Tekla Holt, Gig Harbor, WA, Laura Hassebrock, Ferndale, WA and Ronata Swackhamar, Bremerton, WA and his faithful furry companion, Mitzy. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Victor, Paul, Oscar, Art, Walter, and Erhardt, and two sisters: Selma and Hilda.
