Ernest Kulish, 95, of Dickinson passed away August 31, 2023.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place, a family graveside service will be held at a later date at Korsun cemetery west of Manning near the family farm.
Ernest passed away peacefully August 31st at Edgewood Hawks Point in Dickinson, ND.
Ernest Edward Kulish was born December 24th, 1927, the son of Mike and Pauline (Hurinenko) Kulish. He was the oldest of 3 children and was raised on a family farm near Fayette, ND. He attended rural school and farmed and ranched with his dad near Fayette and in 1951 married Ellen Sabrowsky in Medora, ND.
Ernest and Ellen then moved to Ft Hood, Texas for 9 months for Ernest's basic training in the Army, Ellen moved back to Dickinson while Ernest was serving in the Army in North Korea. The war ended after a short time and then Ernest and Ellen moved to Billings County residing at Ernest’s parent’s family farm. Ernest and Ellen eventually took over the family farm and built a new house residing on the farm until retiring to Dickinson in 1991.
Ernest enjoyed the farm and ranch life and worked tirelessly 7 days a week and never thought anything of it. Earlier they milked a few cows and sold cream and eggs to restaurants in Dickinson for grocery money on their town day of Thursday. He loved working with cattle and horses and often would ride horse in the evenings before the sun went down. He was early to rise and often would not come in the house until dark, he worked hard and had three square meals a day. Ernest and Ellen always had a big garden and canned everything to make it through the winter, they also raised ducks, geese, and chickens, he also took on the breed of Tarentaise cattle and was proud of their behavior and production.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Kulish; parents, Mike and Pauline Kulish; brother, George Kulish; and sister, Alina Tormaschy.
Ernest is survived by his two sons, Randy Kulish of Dickinson, ND and Dave Kulish of Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Michael Kulish of Rapid City, SD, Kari Kulish of Bismarck, ND, Emily Kulish of Rapid City, SD, and Bailee Kulish of Denver, CO; three great grandchildren, Hayden McCormick of Floyd Knobs, Indiana, Serenity Kulish of Dickinson, ND, and Azelea Merritt of Bismarck, ND
