Funeral Services for Ernest Lang, 96, of Baker will be 10:00 a. m. , Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Baker with Pastor Levi Durfey officiating. Burial will be in the Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker. A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, at 7:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Visitation will be from 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Ernie passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Veterans Home in Miles City, Montana. Ernest Lang was born on November 3, 1918, the son of John and Elizabeth (Naaz) Lang, at Crow Rock, Montana. He attended the Fertile Prairie Country School through the 8th grade. Ernie enlisted into the US Army in 1941 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945 at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Ernie returned to Plevna where he married Louise Burkle on February 3, 1946 in Plevna. To this union two children were born, Marilyn and Kenneth. Together they farmed and raised their children north of Plevna. In 1954 they purchased the Henry Hepperle farm northeast of Baker where they farmed until retiring. In 1981 Ernie and Louise moved into town where they built a new home and he lived there until entering the VA Nursing Home in Miles City. Ernie enjoyed carpentry both remodeling and building new homes in the Baker area. He also enjoyed watching TV and playing cards. Ernie was very active in the First Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Treasurer, Trustee and singing in the choir for many years. Survivors include, a daughter, Marilyn Gawryluk, Baker, MT; a son, Kenneth (Beth) Lang; Roseburg, OR; two brothers, Norman Lang, Baker, MT and Manuel Lang, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Lydia Bales, Yakima, WA and Frieda Straub, Baker, MT; Five grandchildren, David Lang, Roseburg, OR; Rebecca (Brandon Hopkins – fiancée) Gillette, WY, Michelle (Larry) Herman, Billings, MT, Ernie (Victoria) Gawryluk, Glendive, MT and Dawn (Pete) Stewart, Baker, MT; two great grandchildren, Larry Herman III and Cheye Herman and the third soon to arrive great-grandson. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise; a son-in-law, Tony Gawryluk; two brothers, Henry & Christ and two sisters, Martha Buerkle and Alvina Croissant.
