As a young man he worked on the family homestead, being the 3rd generation. Ernest was inducted into the US Army in 1963. Due to his mother’s illness, he returned to the family farm in Dunn Center to help his parents. He began Trampe-Loraas Livestock Trucking with his brother Dallas. After the death of Dallas in 1983, Ernest continued to run the trucking company as Trampe Livestock Trucking until 2011. Ernest married Cathy Sands on April 12, 1984 in Moville, Iowa. Together they made their home in Dunn Center where they operated the farm and the trucking business. Ernie especially enjoyed his regular customers which he hauled cattle for over the years. He also hauled horses, pigs and buffalo. He loved his German Shepard dogs, especially Sparks. Ernie enjoyed a good game of pinochle, his Plymouth car collection, tractors, his neighbors and getting together with them over the years. He always enjoyed riding horse, rounding up cattle, branding and moving them in the fall. Ernest served on the Halliday Fire District for many years. He was a member of Vang Lutheran Church.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Curtis (Stacy) Svendsen of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Kit Svendsen of Ida Grove, IA; five grandchildren, Katrina Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Mallery, Brett and Brandon Svendsen; and two great-grandchildren, Jaylyn and Jacob.
