Funeral Services for Ernie Benz, 70 , of Dunn Center, ND will be 11:00 a. m, Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center with Pastor Aanen Gjovik officiating. Burial will follow in the Werner Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, October 23, 2006 from 12:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Killdeer. Ernie passed away Friday, October 20, 2006 at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Dickinson. Ernie was born June 8, 1936 at Killdeer, ND, the son of Frank and Barbara (Unterseher) Benz. He grew up near Dunn Center and attended the Connely #2 Rural School. In 1954 he enlisted in the US Army where he served with the 6th Armored Division at Ft. Bliss Texas and 18 months in Nellegan, Germany. He was honorably discharged on April 8, 1957. Ernie returned to Dunn Center where he worked on the farm for a short time. He was married to Maureen A. Dahlen at Dunn Center in April of 1959. They moved into Dunn Center where Ernie began working for the Dunn County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. During this time, he built many area roads. In 1965 they purchased the family homestead where they farmed and raised their family. Ernie returned to the Dunn County Road Department in 1985 and operated a road maintainer. He was always willing to help neighbors haul and move cattle. Ernie enjoyed collecting tractors, especially his Farmall and was very proud of his cap collection. He was a member of the Normanna Lutheran Church where he served on the council, American Legion, Elks, Eagles, County ASCS Committee, National Stockmen Association and was a volunteer fireman. Ernie loved and enjoyed his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Maureen, Dunn Center, ND; a son, Aaron Benz (friend, Sabrina), Killdeer, ND; a daughter, Alene (Mark) Dravitz, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren: Trista, Daylen and DeDee; two great-grandchildren: Tyra and Treyten; three brothers: Harold (Rosa) Benz, Killdeer, ND, Frank (Joyce) Benz, Loveland, CO, Rueben Benz, Dunn Center, ND; three sisters: Irene Wilhelm, Circle, MT, Elsie Foster, Lancaster, CA and Darlene Weisz, Ankeny, IA; five sisters-in-law, Louise Benz, Bismarck, ND, Ruby Benz, Dunn Center, ND, Leah Benz, Bismarck, ND, Peggy Benz, Killdeer, ND, and Sandra Benz, Killdeer, ND. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Alvin, Walter, Leo, Bernie and Henry.
