Funeral services for Ervin Harold Mutschelknaus, 87, of Hebron will be 10:00 a. m. (CDT) Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Hebron, ND, with Pastor Marcy Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at the First Congregational Cemetery in Hebron with military rites. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, Hebron, with a Prayer Service taking place at 6:00 p. m. (CDT). Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a. m. to 10:00 a. m. Ervin passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Marian Manor Health Center, Glen Ullin, ND. Ervin Harold Mutschelknaus was born April, 15, 1924, to Gottleib and Christina (Schatz) Mutschelknaus. He grew up on the family farm north west of Glen Ullin, ND and attended school in town. After he finished school, Ervin spent several years working for some of the neighboring farmers. He enlisted in the United State Army and served during World War II, specifically at Okinawa, Japan in the Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged, Ervin returned to North Dakota where he began his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad. On February 2, 1947, he married Dorothy Rebel. Ervin?s railroad job took him to various places throughout North Dakota, eastern Minnesota, and west to central Montana. Ervin and Dorothy lived in a Bunk car for several years while they raised their young family. In 1959 they settled in Hebron, ND and have made it their home ever since. Ervin retired after 38 years with the railroad. Ervin was a tinkerer and could often be found in the garage or basement working on a project. He and Dorothy enjoyed taking bus tours to various places around the country. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. Ervin stayed active in various church activities at the First Congregational Church in Hebron. He was also a member of the Hebron American Legion Post #100. Ervin truly enjoyed time spent with his family and visits from his great-grandchildren always brightened his day. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy; five sons, Lester Mutschelknaus, Hebron, ND; Alvin (Carol) Mutschelknaus, Hebron, ND; Clyde (Lila) Mutschelknaus, Colorado Springs, CO; Steve (Melissa) Mutschelknaus, Bowman, ND; Danny (Kim) Mutschelknaus of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Ervin was preceded in death by his son Kenneth, both of his parents, two brothers, five sisters and a grandson, Dustin Mutschelknaus.
