Funeral Mass for Eugene Kastner 95, of Mesa, AZ formerly of Glen Ullin, ND will be 11:00 a. m. , CDT, Friday, May 1, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for Eugene will be 9:00 a. m. , CDT, Friday, May 1, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic church with Rosary being held at 10:00 a. m. Eugene passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Mesa, AZ. Eugene Kastner was born May 20, 1919, in Haymarsh, ND, the son of Gregory and Philamina (Nagel) Kastner. He grew up and graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1939. Eugene enlisted in the Army and served as a 2nd lieutenant officer in World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1953. He met the love of his life Carrie Braun at a barn dance and were married September 3, 1942. To this union three children were born, Ken, Lyle and Patti. After he was discharged Eugene and Carrie bought a ranch and raised shorthorn cattle until he retired in 1982. Eugene enjoyed gardening, music and reading. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Shorthorn Association. Eugene is survived by his daughter Patti and Michael Leppak of Gilbert, AZ; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Philamina Kastner; wife Carrie Kastner; and sons, Ken and Lyle Kastner.
