Eugene George Kudrna was born on March 5, 1947 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Victor and Dorothy (Semerad) Kudrna. He graduated from South Heart High School in 1965. Throughout high school, he played basketball, softball, and ran track.

He attended Dickinson State University before enlisting in the US Army in 1967. He took basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and from there went to Fort Polk, Louisiana for on the job training in the Courts and Boards section of the military. When his training was finished at Fort Polk, he received orders to go to Germany. While in Germany, he worked at a Communication Center for US Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. This is where he met his future wife, Monika. Eugene was discharged from the Army on December 24, 1969.

Eugene spent about three months at home before returning to Heidelberg for a job working for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. In October of 1978, he received tragic news that his father was killed in a car accident. After the funeral, he returned to Germany, resigned from his job at AAFES, and returned home to Dickinson.

Gene and Monika were married on February 28, 1979. He got a job working for Fred’s Fairway in Belfield until September of 1981. He then began working for the US Postal Service. He retired from USPS on November 2, 2022 after a career of over 41 years as a sales associate.

Gene enjoyed doing anything outside on a nice day. He loved visiting, having coffee with friends, and playing cards with his buddies. His greatest source of enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchild.

Gene is survived by his two daughters, Mary (Jeff) Duttenhefer and Loretta (Troy) Heidt, both of Dickinson; one grandchild, Michael Duttenhefer; his brothers, Ron (Shirley) Kudrna of Mandan and Dave (Joan) Kudrna of Bismarck; sister-in-law, Isabel Kudrna of Billings, MT;.
