Mass of Christian Burial for ?Joe? Eugene Kuntz, 77, Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Dennis Schafer, celebrating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson with military honors provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be at Stevenson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. A Vigil Servicel will be held at Stevenson Funeral Home at 4:00 p. m. on Sunday. Eugene Kuntz entered into rest on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Eugene C. Kuntz was born on February 10, 1930, the son of Joe and Mary (Jacobs-Schubert) Kuntz in Dickinson. Joe, as most of his friends called him, grew up and attended schools in Dickinson. He joined the US Navy in 1946 and served until 1948. Joe returned to Dickinson where he completed his schooling at Dickinson State Teachers College. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1950 where he served in Co. K with the 164th Infantry. He served in the Guard for two years and in the Korean Conflict for one year. In 1952, he was honorably discharged and returned to Dickinson. He began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1953 as a brakeman. Joe was married to Peggy Black on August 3, 1953 in Minnesota and together, they made their home in Dickinson. He continued working with the railroad and worked his way to conductor and later to yardmaster in Dickinson. He retired due to an injury after 30 plus years with the railroad. Joe was an avid reader and especially enjoyed novels and history. He followed NFL football, especially the Vikings. Joe spent many hours playing cards with his friends at St. Anthony?s Club. He was always a baseball enthusiast and was very instrumental in getting the Southside American Legion Baseball Park restored. Joe loved his grandsons and was especially fond of his great-grandchildren. Survivors include, his wife, Peggy, Dickinson, ND; a daughter, Tammy Jo Weiler, Dickinson, ND; two sons, Bryon J. Kuntz, Coon Rapids, MN and Joel J. Kuntz, Blaine, MN; two grandchildren, Joshua M. (Molly) Wanner and Derrick P. (Celes) Weiler; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Lou and Jacob; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael Joel in 1961, and Michael Albert in 1963; four brothers, and eight sisters. A memorial has been established for the OEREO Animal Rescue, 93 21st St. W. , Dickinson, ND 58601.
