Eugene passed away Wednesday, December 4th, 2013 at his home in Glen Ullin, ND.
Eugene was born May 24, 1925 to Peter and Olga (Meyer) Weinhardt in Glen Ullin. He attended Haymarsh School and Glen Ullin Public School completing the eighth grade. After school he returned to the family farm. Eugene married Viola Schneider on December 29, 1947 in Glen Ullin. This union was blessed with five children, Kenneth, Raymond, Linda, Bernard, and Julie. They raised their children on the farm and in 1968 designed and built a new home. In 1975, Eugene and Viola received the yearly Soil Conservation Award, which he was surprised, honored, and displayed the pictures proudly. In 1982, he switched occupations with son Kenneth and started driving semi-truck with Southwest Grain Gladstone Terminal. He lovingly continued to drive until his retirement in 2001, at the age of 75. In 2000, Eugene and Viola moved their dream home into town, where he currently was residing. During these years, he was an active member of local organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Glen Ullin Museum Board, Sr. Citizen Center, as well as others. Gene was a very creative man and loved inventing and building things. Some of his amazing fabrications included a snow plane, mo-ped, hay rack, and remote control airplane that he built from the ground up. He enjoyed farming, working with cattle and spending time tinkering in the shop. He was an honest and hardworking man who was quiet, calm and cool even when the unexpected arose and he was willing to lend an extra hand to anyone in need. He was well known to have a memory for remembering past events and people’s names. He enjoyed playing cards, solitaire on the computer, fishing, putting puzzles together, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Viola; Children: Raymond, Minnetonka, MN; Linda (Linndale) Steiger, Glendive, MT; Bernard, of Gillette, WY; Julie (Curt DelaBarre) Kramer of Glen Ullin; daughter-in-law Arlyne Weinhardt of Glen Ullin; Grandchildren: Kristeen (David) Scherr, Greely, CO; Tina Laske, Bismarck, ND; Bemidji (Brennan) O’Rourke, Minnetonka, MN; Shannon (Jeromy) Kuntz of Glen Ullin; Nicole Steiger of Glen Ullin; Jeremy (Lindsey Jahner) Steiger, Steele; Jessica (Jason) Dallmann, Bismarck; Derek (Addi) Weinhardt, Gillette, WY; Tiffany Weinhardt, Gillette, WY; Shantel Kramer & Eugene Kramer of Glen Ullin; 9 Great-Grandchildren; close friends, Fritz & Laura Wehri of Glen Ullin; many friends and numerous extended family members.
