Eunice (Sebastian) Schirado went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 26, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Marian Manor. She was a model of faith, courage, and inspiration to everyone who knew her right up until the last moments of her life. Eunice was born July 12, 1928, at the home of her grandmother, Ma Gietzen. Eunice was the oldest child of John and Caroline (Gietzen) Sebastian of Hebron, ND. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Hebron in the Haymarsh Valley and attended Morton County rural schools and Haymarsh Catholic School. Eunice married her soul mate and best friend, Ernest Schirado, of Glen Ullin, ND, on October 10, 1951, at St. Clement’s Catholic Church. They moved to the Schirado homestead northeast of Glen Ullin where they farmed, ranched, and raised nine children. Both Eunice and Ernie loved to sing and were members of the Sacred Heart Choir. Eunice faithfully served her parish and community by active participation in the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers, Glen Ullin Saddle Club, Glen Ullin School Election Board, as well as being a 50 year member of the Haymarsh Homemakers. Eunice was known for raising a huge garden. Her pickled beets are legendary among her family and friends. She made excellent baked goods – bread, caramel rolls, pies, chocolate chip cookies. In her spare time, Eunice enjoyed reading, word finds, needle work, sewing, music and dancing, seeing her children come home, and spoiling her grandchildren. Eunice was dedicated to her husband and children and they were blessed for sharing her life. She had seven sons: Rick (Wanda) of Aurora, CO; Allen (Marjie) of Bismarck; Tim (Lori) of Menoken; Bruce (Heidi) of Bismarck; Russell (Holly) of Menoken; Bryan (Michelle) of Harrisburg, SD; Kyle (Mitzi) of Granby, CO and two daughters Lynnette of Glen Ullin and Corrine (David) Vatnsdal-Geck of Bismarck. Eunice instilled in all her children the strong sense of family and Catholic Faith. When it was absolutely necessary to miss a Sunday mass or Holy Day of Obligation, the living room hushed with 11 voices reciting a rosary. Precious to her were every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michael (Rhonda) Schirado their children Peyton and Shea; Sarah (Jay) Rarog their children Blake and Breslyn; Jennifer (Kris) Goodman their children Rachel, Katherine, and Caroline; Joseph (Michaela) Schirado; John (Megan) Schirado; Christopher (Lynsey) Schirado and their son Kylan; Cory Schirado; Cody Schirado; Kalli Schirado; Jordyn Schirado; Casey Schirado; Lindy (Steven) West; Dustin Schirado and his fiancé Dusti Flath; Kaylee Schirado; Matthew Schirado; Nicholas Schirado; John Schirado; Jacob Schirado; Travis Vatnsdal; Cassidy Vatnsdal; Samantha (Geck) and Adam Nies and their son Milo; and Macy Geck. Eunice is survived by: one sister, JoAnne (Ervin) Messer of New Salem; two brothers, Joel (Linda) Sebastian of Billings, MT and Gerald (Debbie) Sebastian of Hebron; one brother-in-law, Bob (Joyce) and Donna Praus of Killdeer; three sisters-in-law, Eunice (Myron) Sebastian of Towner, Marian (Reuben) Sebastian of Mesa, AZ, and Anna (Duane) Sebastian of Bismarck; and dozens upon dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Ernest; her parents, John and Caroline; one son-in-law, Les Vatnsdal; three grandchildren, Cameron, Jaden, and Katherine Vatnsdal; one sister, Joyce; and three brothers, Myron, Reuben, and Duane.
