Interment will be at 4:00 p. m. in the Walker family lot in the Pine Slope Cemetery at Belle Fourche. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Eunice I. Walker, 94, went home to her Lord at her home in Alzada, MT on July 10, 2009. Eunice Irene Walker was born on August 4, 1914, a daughter of Frank and Norine (Groat) Clem at the family home, which is now the present day Albion Hall at Albion, MT. She was the 7th child of nine children. Eunice?s dad, Frank and her uncle Bert had the first country store at Albion. Her mother, Norine ran a ?Roadhouse? in their home where she cooked for freighters and travelers. As a young girl Eunice rode horse back to attend grade school at Albion. She later attended high school in Belle Fourche, SD, where she lived with the Durr family, working for her room and board. On August 26, 1933, Eunice married William Kenneth Walker, at the Baptist Church in Belle Fourche. To this union, they were blessed with five children, Alvin, Ronald, David, and twins, Bonnie and Bill. Eunice and Willie made their home in the Finger Buttes, on the Elmer Clem homestead. Eunice and Willie started their ranch operation with 50 head of ewe lambs and a horse named Dynamite which was Willie?s wedding gift to Eunice. Together they leased 150 head of ewes from John Davies. Eventually they would build their ranch to include 3,000 head of sheep and a herd of Hereford cattle. Eunice was actively involved with the day to day operation of the ranch for 76 years. After Willie passed away in 1978, Eunice remained on the ranch where she made her home until 1981, when she leased out the ranch and moved into Alzada where she lived until her death. After her ?retirement? from the ranch, Eunice remained active. She was an active member of the Alzada Senior Citizens. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing pitch with her friends, Leone, Swede, Edith, Mildred, Ellen and Roberta. She was a lifetime member of the Republican Party, a member of the Federation of Republican Women, a lifetime member of the Alzada Roping Club, a member of the Carter County Stock Growers, Montana Wool Growers Association and the American National Cowbelles. Eunice was elected as County Commissioner in Carter County in 1982 and served the people of Carter County with dignity and respect until 1988. In her later years, even after losing some of her vision, Eunice had a great sense of humor and was an avid conservative and faithfully watched FOX News daily. She always kept abreast of the political arena, and took her privilege to vote very seriously. She had a long, hard, interesting and full life. She was a true pioneer always caring for the livestock and worked hard to build up her ranch. She was the pillar of her family. Her heart and home was always open to family, friends and neighbors; her hospitality was next to none as she always cooked for everyone who came by. She was an avid hunter gathering food for her family. Her specialty was cooking up sage chicken, deer, and fish and baking her own bread. Her greatest love in life was for her family, her children, grand children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Eunice is survived by her five children, Alvin (Barbara) Walker, Scotts Bluff, NE, Ronald (Janice) Walker, Hudson, CO, David (Sandra) Walker, Custer, SD, Bonnie (Roger) Ballou, Hulett, WY and Bill (Janet) Walker, Alzada, MT; one sister, Elsie Scholten, Huntsville, UT; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special Guardian Angel, caretaker and dear friend for the past 2 ? years, Cathy Zinante. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Norine, her husband, Willie, her three brothers, Earl Clem, Ralph Clem and Franklin Clem, her sisters, Edith Stetter, Beatrice Nelson, Mary Brewer and infant sister Ada Clem, two grandsons, Chad Priewe and Monte Eckert and a granddaughter, Gloria Tyler,. Memorials maybe made to the family as a memorial will be established. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Eunice at the funeral service is most welcome.
