Evelyn Marlene (Korb) Bjorness, 71, long-time resident of Dickinson, North Dakota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Evelyn was born September 10, 1949 to Jacob and Charlotte Korb in Terry, MT, the eldest of three daughters. During her childhood, she enjoyed helping out in her grandparent’s garden, playing with cousins in the area, reading, and participating in the Luther League.

Evelyn attended school in Glendive and graduated from Dawson County High School. She then enrolled in Dawson Community College, and in 1970 earned an associate library degree. While a student at Dawson Community College, she met her future husband, John Bjorness, Jr. After getting married and welcoming three children, they moved to Dickinson, ND where they welcomed three more children.

Evelyn was a loving wife and mother. Evelyn cooked almost every family meal through the years. She baked cakes for birthday parties and pies and cookies for special occasions. She mended hand-me-down clothes. She decorated the walls and windows for every holiday. While she could fill the silence with her talkative nature, she was quietly generous and hard-working. Evelyn loved singing, gardening, and playing board games and cards with her family (often letting her grandchildren win, yet full of glee when a game of Canasta turned in her favor!). She gave tirelessly and through it all her children understood her love; she was always their champion.

As her children grew older, she was employed at Dan’s Supermarket, amongst other local businesses. She was a dedicated volunteer who served on the prayer list and participated regularly during holy hours of adoration at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and she enjoyed contributing to local community meetings.

Several years ago Evelyn was diagnosed with dementia. John served as her caregiver in the home in which they raised their family until it became no longer possible. In 2019, she entered Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, ND, where she resided until passing away following complications due to pneumonia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Linda Korb, and her son, Jim.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, John, (of Dickinson, ND), five children: Jeff (of Lauderdale, MN), Julie (Jason) Kromarek (of Scranton, ND), Virginia (Greg Carlson of Bismarck, ND), Theresa (Brad Windle of Carrollton, TX), and Chad (of Dickinson, ND), two grandchildren: Damian Cowley (of Mandan, ND) and Adia (Vance) Valloff (of Rapid City, SD), two step-grandchildren: Jaric Kromarek (of Rapid City, SD) and Devin Kromarek (of Scranton, ND) and a sister, Nancy Korb (of Glendive, MT).
