Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Kary, 90, of Dickinson, is Saturday, January 25, 2003, 1:00 p. m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Jim Braaten, celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Edward?s Cemetery, Fayette, ND. Visitation is Friday 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a rosary being said at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Evelyn passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at St. Benedict?s Health Center. Evelyn, a daughter of Charles and Rosalie (Rousseau) McLaughlin was born on January 21, 1913 in Dodge, North Dakota. Evelyn grew up and attended schools north of Golden Valley and then later she attended school in Dodge where she graduated in 1931 from high school. She worked for a short time before attending Dickinson State Teachers College and graduated with her teaching eertificate in 1936. She taught at a country school near Fayette, North Dakota from 1937-1938. Then Evelyn married Valentine Kary on July 11, 1938 in Fayette, North Dakota. She met Valentine at a local country dance. They returned to the Kary farm and Evelyn continued to teach at Country Schools. Evelyn taught religion classes at St. Edward?s for many years, along with holding offices in the Altar Society. She was very active in 4-H and served as a leader. Her family was first and foremost in her life. She worked hard to help maintain the family farm and ranch. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, her flowers, and decorating her home. Evelyn is survived by her son, James (Diane) Kary, Prior Lake, MN; six daughters, Janice (Don) Miller, Raleigh, ND, Sharon (Jim) Nelson, Sidney MT, Dorene (Glenn) Strom, Bismarck, ND, Donna (Adrian) Kadrmas, Dickinson, ND, Shirley (Jim) Ortman, Omaha, NE, Diane (Tom) Fischer, Billings, MT; one brother, Charles McLaughlin, Golden, CO; two sisters, Esther Fischer and Lillion (Leonard) Wolf all of Dickinson, ND; 23 grandchilren, nine great grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Valentine, and three sisters.
